As Native women leaders in North Dakota, we are extremely troubled by Judge Brett Kavanaugh's lack of judicial temperament. We already knew he was not fit to serve on the Supreme Court, and these allegations of sexual assault further disqualify him from the seat. Survivors of sexual assault deserve respect. American Indians are the victims of rape and sexual assault at a rate 3.5 times higher than that of any other race in the United States. This is a moment of truth for every member of the Senate. What senators do today will determine whether they stand with women and survivors-or stand against them. The people making and shaping our laws should be held to the highest standards, not the lowest. Our concerns are grounded in human and Native rights, not partisan politics.
