Slowly but surely, he built his grassroots startup into one of the top oil producers in the United States and the Bakken's largest leaseholder. A tireless philanthropist, be has sponsored numerous charitable initiatives, including the founding of the Harold Hamm Diabetes Center in Oklahoma City, OK, and the formation of the University of Mary's Hamm School of Engineering. In recognition of Hamm's lifetime of generous service, the university awarded him an honorary doctorate in leadership and philanthropy at this year's commencement ceremony.
