CHIROPRACTIC CARE I think my daughter may have scoliosis as one shoulder blade sticks out further than the other. Is there anything else I should be looking for? A simple way to check for scoliosis is to have your child remove clothing above the waist and observe her posture from behind. Check for the following imbalances and ask these questions: 1) Does one hip appear higher or more prominent? 2) Looking at her waist, does one side curve in? 3) With both arms hanging down to her sides is there more room between her body and arm on one side versus the other? 4) Is one shoulder higher or the shoulder blade more prominent? 5) Does she hold her head tipped to one side? 6) Have her bend over at the waist toward the toes. Does one side of the spine appear more prominent or is there a hump on one side between the shoulders or in the lower back? If while performing these tests at home you answered "Yes" to any of the questions, your daughter is showing signs of scoliosis or at least mild curvature of the spine. A visit should be scheduled with your chiropractic physician or orthopaedist. Dr.Brook A.
